A popular fast food restaurant in Sydney has closed after a Facebook video surfaced showing four large rats running around the shop's floor before disappearing into the kitchen.

The rats were filmed at Oporto's Broadway outlet by Vijay Kumar who uploaded the video to Facebook.

He said: "This one goes out to all the oporto lovers out there! Think zillion times before you walk again into this place!!!!!!! TODAYS Special - Spicy Gluten free Rat burgers!!!!!."

Craveable Brands, which owns Oporto, said the fast food outlet closed voluntarily when it became aware of the vermin.

"They appear to have accessed the Broadway restaurant via a ventilation hole, or other access point from outside," a spokesman for Craveable Brands said.

"Since then, the store has undergone a full decontamination and industrial cleaning process to ensure all surfaces are hygienic and safe."

"The store will remain closed ... until both Oporto and health inspectors are satisfied that vermin cannot re-enter the Broadway store from outside.

The spokeswoman said the store had passed all sanitation inspections and met all health standards. Oporto stores also conduct full pest control and remediation assessment every three months.

A City of Sydney spokesman said: "It is the responsibility of individual food businesses and shopping centres to eradicate vermin and prevent them entering their premises.

"The City has carried out an inspection of the business and will ensure it meets health standards before re-opening."
