Kerryn said everyone who lives in their street has been a resident for more than 15 years.
She said it was the type of neighbourhood where people congregate for a friendly chat, mow each other’s lawn, and meet for breakfast on Christmas morning.
Kerryn said it would be sad to leave.
“We have many dear friends who live in Huntingfield and a lot of fond memories, but the house is too big for just the two of us,” she said.
“I think it would be ideal for a family. There are a lot of people who ride bikes around the area, and it is a safe neighbourhood.”
Bill said part of the appeal was that Charles Eaton Court is a no-through road, which makes it nice and quiet.
As well as a formal lounge and dining room, their spacious home has a fantastic master bedroom with an ensuite. Bill said the bedroom was “big enough that you could kick a footy in it”.
In an interesting twist, Kerryn said she lived in the unit next door to their current three-bedroom and two-bathroom home at No.3.
“Perhaps we should move just across the road,” she said. “Maybe the view is different over there!”
Instead, the couple are downsizing to a low-maintenance property in nearby Kingston.
EIS Property consultant Edward McKay said finding a downsizer home in the current market could be a challenge.
He said it had become common to see people locked into their larger property and unable to downsize.
“We are seeing it a lot in Kingborough,” he said.
“People might be ready for the next phase of their life, but then they find that smaller properties are hard to come by, especially if they want to stay in Kingston and find somewhere flat rather than a two-storey home.”
CoreLogic figures show exactly how tricky it can be to get a foot in the door at Huntingfield. There were just four house sales in the 12 months to March.
More than a few times in recent years the suburb has had Australia’s lowest “days on market’’ figures, with buyers snapping properties up within days of them hitting the market.
No.3 Charles Eaton Court, Huntingfield, is listed with EIS Property at “Offers over $465,000”. There will be an open home on Sunday from 2.30-3.15pm.
