Severe thunderstorm warning for Sydney, flooding in Marrickville

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Sydney, most likely bringing heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.

Flooding has already been reported at Marrickville train station, in the inner west.

The Bureau of Meteorology said severe thunderstorms were detected on the radar near Sydney city, Sydney Airport, Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Ryde and Strathfield at 7.15pm.

“These thunderstorms are slow moving,” the bureau said. “They are forecast to affect Canterbury, Chatswood, Enfield and waters off Bondi Beach by 7.45pm and Parramatta, Auburn, Epping and Manly by 8.15pm.”

Marrickville Golf Club, in the inner west, recorded 22 millimetres between 6.30pm and 7pm.

Delays are expected on some T3 train services to the city.
