A man in his 20s has been arrested by Swedish police in what they’re treating as a possible act of terror after he attacked as many as eight people in a town south of the capital Stockholm.

Police reports from Vetlanda said the man was shot by armed officers and taken to a hospital by ambulance, where he’s being treated for his injuries.

“Tonight I am thinking of those who were injured in Vetlanda and their relatives,” Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said on social media. “I condemn this terrible violence.” He said police had described the assailant as a lone perpetrator with a knife. Though some of the victims were seriously injured, there were no fatalities.

Police hadn’t initially classified the attack on Wednesday as an act of terrorism. “What his motives and plans were is something we must investigate,” said police spokesman Jonas Lindell.
