NSW Police have closed several roads and are advising the community to avoid the Windang area amid reports of a gunman at large.

A spokesperson for NSW Police confirmed an operation is currently underway at Windang Road in Windang, south of Wollongong.

In a tweet, police said, “a number of road closures are in place and the community are urged to avoid the area”.
