In the 30 years since they’ve had five homes. “Every time we had a kid, we had to move to something bigger,” Robert laughs.
By the time they snapped up their current home, at 216 Military Rd, Dover Heights – for $5.5m in 2018 – they had five children, and a clear vision of the perfect family home.
Says Robert: “We saw the potential; the house was built in 1980 and stuck in time, but I thought, ‘let’s buy it and do something magical’.”

An incredible home awaits a new family. Each of the seven bedrooms has an ensuite; there are two powder rooms; a pool; spa; cabana; sauna; home theatre, billiard room and a self-contained studio.
And a huge new open-plan entertainment space offers a city skyline, Opera House and Harbour Bridge panorama. “We knew how important this view was,” says Robert.
There are little luxuries you won’t find in many homes: underfloor heating in the living areas as well as the bathrooms; airconditioning throughout and double-glazed European-style “tilt” windows.
There are other ideas taken from Europe, too, such as Spanish tiles that look like floorboards; a quartz freestanding kitchen bench that, unlike marble, won’t stain; a large laundry opening to a sunny outdoor drying area; and a huge Canadian cedarwood sauna.
Also out by the pool is the cabana with barbecue and pizza oven. There’s even a TV and Wi-Fi, so you can chill out on the lilo and watch Netflix on hot summer nights.
Plus, plenty of room for all the kids’cars, with five in the garage and two more in the drive.
