Jacob Ford, one of four charged with murder, was refused bail in the Supreme Court of Victoria on Monday.

In her reasons, Justice Lesley Taylor said Ms Parfitt allegedly sent a prescient text as she feared for her life on April 27, 2020, the day before she was last seen alive.

“I’m going to end up dead if U don’t help me,” she allegedly messaged to her ex.

Mr Ford, 35, of Elaine is one of four charged over Ms Parfitt’s death.

Ballarat woman Shannon Jeffrey, 32, Renee Bridget Reynolds, 31, of Mount Clear and Brendon James Prestage, 31, of Wendouree have also been charged.

The four are accused of murdering Ms Parfitt, 43, who was last seen alive in Ballarat on April 28, 2020.

Her body was found down a mine shaft in Snake Valley bushland on December 22 after an extensive search.

Police found the body by analysing the movements of Mr Prestage’s phone, who had it on him while they were allegedly hiding Ms Parfitt’s remains, the court heard.

Police allege Ms Parfitt was murdered because Ms Jeffrey believed she had spoken to the police about her.

Ms Jeffrey was arrested at Ms Parfitt’s house for an unrelated matter in late 2019, prosecutors told the court.

Police allege Ms Jeffrey was heard calling Ms Parfitt a “dog” to multiple people in recorded phone calls while she was in prison between January and April last year.

On April 28, Ms Jeffrey fatally assaulted Ms Parfitt and the other three helped her try to cover it up, police allege.

It is further alleged Ms Parfitt was in the process of moving house because of her fear of Ms Jeffrey when she was killed.

Mr Ford and Ms Jeffrey were seen at Ms Parfitt’s house filling bags with her stuff to steal on the last day she was seen alive while Ms Parfitt was allegedly seen “petrified” by witnesses.
