George Kambosos Jnr is a wonderful Sydney story, but for the most part he’s been snubbed by the mainstream media.

Most of the column inches have been monopolised by the likes of Tim Tszyu, Harry Garside, Jai Opetaia, Justis Huni, Brock Jarvis or any number of former footballers, headlined by headline machine Paul Gallen.

However, none of them have fought to become an undisputed world champion, something Kambosos Jnr is about to do.

The George Kambosos Jnr story is a cracker; he was the fat kid at school who got picked on but was never picked for sporting teams. His salvation came in the form of boxing, which gave him the confidence to make something of himself.

The 28 year old began his professional career fighting in front of a handful of fans at venues like the Croatian Club, but has been prepared to travel all over the world in a bid to rise up the rankings. The fact he seldom fights locally may be one of the reasons he has gone hardly unnoticed.

However, after compiling a 19-0 record, he can become a household name if he can take all the belts off Lopez today.

Predicting the start of any fight is an inexact science, but we’ll be able to give you a ballpark time.

There are seven bouts in total on the card, and now we’re up to the main undercard bout, between Azinga Fuzile and Kenichi Ogawa for the vacant IBF world super featherweight title.

The main event, between Lopez and Kambosos Jnr, is scheduled to begin at about 2:30pm AEDT but might begin a touch earlier.

If you want to watch it live, you will need to subscribe to DAZN (it costs $3 a month to do so).

Good afternoon fight fans!

A very warm welcome to our coverage of the biggest event in Australian boxing this year, the much anticipated bout between local hope George Kambosos Jnr and the undisputed lightweight champion, Teofimo Lopez.

This event has been a long time coming; there have been multiple date and venue changes, for reasons as varied as Lopez contracting COVID-19 to Triller, the initial winner of the purse bid, forfeiting their hosting rights.

But now the moment has arrived and Kambosos Jnr can make history at New York’s Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden.

Lopez is a superstar of the sport, the holder of the WBA, IBF and WBO belts, as well as The Ring Magazine lineal championship belt and the WBC franchise strap. If Kambosos Jnr can pull off a huge upset - the bookies have installed him as the 6-1 outsider - he becomes the man.

So sit back and enjoy as we bring you all the action!
